If you are transferring you must transfer your I-20 record to the new college.
The new college will update the record in SEVIS and will print a new I-20 showing the information about that college and your studies.
To avoid problems and delays it is important that you follow the necessary steps to complete this process.

The steps are as follows:

1)  Apply to the new college or colleges.

2)  if the new college or colleges sends you a ¡°transfer form¡± give the form or forms to the International Student Advisor on your campus to complete. Generally there is a section on the form which you must complete, sign and date giving permission to the advisor to send the requested information to the college.

Students who have completed their associate degree or the highest level of the Intensive English program have 60 days to complete the transfer process.
If the International Student Advisor has not released the record by the 61st day you may be out of status and the record may have auto-completed.  Generally the International Student Advisors require 10 days to release record so don¡¯t wait until the last minute. If you are having a problem getting your admission letter talk with the International Student Advisor and they may be able to help you.

If you are transferring you are not permitted to remain in the United States unless you will start in the next available term at the new college or within 5 months whichever is earlier. According to F-1 regulations students who have completed a program are not given a summer vacation and must start in the next available term.

NOTE: If you want to travel outside the United States over the summer you will need the new I-20 to return. Most colleges are somewhat overwhelmed with requests for new I-20 forms at the beginning of the summer. When making your travel plans you should allow 2-3 weeks for the school to issue the I-20 or make arrangements to have the I-20 mailed to you. Again contact the advisor is you have questions but understand that many students have ¡°emergencies¡±.
